π Vocational Rehabilitation
Restoring Purpose and Livelihood to Dialysis & CKD Patients at MMDC
The Vocational Rehabilitation Program at MMDC is designed to help dialysis and CKD patients regain independence and rebuild their livelihoods. Through skills training, career counseling, and tailored employment support, the initiative restores a sense of purpose and opens new pathways for sustainable incomeβproving that living with kidney disease does not mean living without opportunity.
π΄ Why This Project Is Critically Needed
- Many kidney disease and dialysis patients lose their ability to work due to fatigue, time-consuming treatment schedules, or physical limitations. This leads to:
- Unemployment and Dependency in prime working-age adults
- Mental health deterioration due to loss of purpose and financial stress
- Increased burden on families, especially in low-income households
- Limited reintegration options in society after starting dialysis
- Vocational rehabilitation is a vital but often neglected aspect of long-term kidney care.
π Project Objectives
- Reintegrate dialysis and CKD patients into the workforce wherever possible
- Enhance self-esteem and mental health through productive engagement
- Provide skill-based training aligned with patient health limitations
- Promote economic self-reliance through remote, flexible work models
- Build partnerships with organizations for income-generating opportunities
π Targets
- Train and support at least 100 patients annually through customized vocational modules
- Offer 3β6 month flexible training cycles in various low-exertion skill sets
- Assist 50% of trained patients with job placement, freelance work, or micro-entrepreneurship
- Engage community volunteers and instructors to provide low-cost or in-kind support
π Strategy
- Health-Aware Vocational Assessment: Patients are evaluated for skills, stamina, and interests
- Skill-Based Training Programs: e.g., sewing, online data entry, call center support, handicrafts, mobile repair, packaging
- In-House & Partner-Based Training: Sessions conducted at MMDC or through local institutes/NGOs
